City of Lewes Earns Improved FEMA Flood Insurance Rating

Good news for Lewes – the city’s flood insurance rating will improve from a Class 8 to a Class 7 in the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System. The improved rating follows FEMA’s five-year verification of the City’s floodplain management program.

The City of Lewes has worked to reduce flood risk through higher regulatory standards, open-space preservation, improved flood data, hazard mitigation planning and other measures that protect lives, property and the national functions of floodplains.

Beginning October 1st as most National Flood Insurance Program policies are issued or renewed in Lewes – the City will qualify for a 15% flood insurance premium discount.
