City of Lewes Earns Improved FEMA Flood Insurance Rating

Good news for Lewes – the city’s flood insurance rating will improve from a Class 8 to a Class 7 in the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System. The improved rating follows FEMA’s five-year verification of the City’s floodplain management program.

The City of Lewes has worked to reduce flood risk through higher regulatory standards, open-space preservation, improved flood data, hazard mitigation planning and other measures that protect lives, property and the national functions of floodplains.

Beginning October 1^st as most National Flood Insurance Program policies are issued or renewed in Lewes – the City will qualify for a 15% flood insurance premium discount.
