Clothing Our Kids Awarded $10,000 From the Freeman Foundation’s FACES Program

Clothing Our Kids of Sussex County has received a $10,000 grant from the Freeman Foundation’s FACES Program. The nonprofit spends more than $156,000 annually on new school clothing for local children, and officials say the grant will help provide complete clothing packages for up to 34 students, with each child receiving a complete package that includes outfits, shoes, undergarments, pajamas, and a seasonal jacket. Officials say all of the grant funding will go directly toward clothing purchases.

The Freeman FACES Program is designed to find and fund the smaller, overlooked projects in neighborhoods – and their grants are limited to nonprofit organizations with operating budgets of 500,000 or less in Sussex County. Founded in 2000, FACES stands for “Freeman Assists Communities with Extra Support.” FACES believes that too often, major nonprofit organizations with high visibility and ample support win donors’ attention.

The FACES program is designed to help less visible projects in neighborhoods and utilizes a volunteer advisory board composed of community leaders who evaluate applications and recommend funding choices. The FACES advisory board provides a unique insight into needs and priorities and allows them to support projects that are most important to the community. Advisory Board Member Danette Small-Shultz visited the COK Volunteer Center to evaluate our Charity and was quite impressed.

COK’s budget for new school clothing is now in excess of $156,000 per annum. All monies from the FACES grant will go toward the purchase of that clothing. The $10,000 award will clothe up to 34 students with each receiving five new outfits, socks, shoes, undergarments, a hooded sweatshirt, pajamas, sneakers. and a seasonal jacket.

“We’re incredibly proud to partner with these organizations that are doing such powerful and
personal work in our communities,” said Michelle Freeman, Chairman and President of the Carl M.
Freeman Foundation. “These are the people and programs that show up every day to support their
neighbors, and we’re honored to stand beside them.”
