Update: 1 Firefighter Hurt In Greenwood Tavern Blaze

A fire early Tuesday morning caused significant damage at The Pit Stop Bar and Grill on West Market Street in Greenwood, and left a firefighter with minor injuries.

According to the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire was reported shortly after 3:00 a.m. Members of the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company arrived and encountered flames and smoke coming from the building. Several mutual aid companies assisted at the scene.

One firefighter was transported from scene with what are described as minor injuries. Damage caused by the fire is estimated at $500,000.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sussex Division of the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office at 302-856-5600.

Numerous fire departments have responded to a blaze on West Market St. in Greenwood at a commercial structure. Please use caution in the area.

Paramedics and the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office were also at the scene of a blaze at The Pit Stop Bar and Grill, which broke out in the 3:00 a.m. hour. The fire was placed under control later. There was structural damage reported, including possible roof damage.

Firefighters from Bridgeville, Farmington, Ellendale, Harrington, Houston and Blades were among those who responded to the fire.
