UMES Budget Cutting Measures
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in Princess Anne is undertaking a series of financial measures to comply with 10 percent required and anticipated budget cuts from the State of Maryland.聽
UMES officials say that in accordance with the state mandate, all positions that have been vacant for 3 or more years will be eliminated, a hiring pause will be instituted with rare exceptions, they will initiate telework Fridays for some employees through the summer and all employees will receive a modest COLA.
Officials add that additional savings are anticipated through attrition, reduction in temporary workforce, furloughs and routine personnel realignment.
These measures were announced to the University Tuesday morning and are part of statewide budget cuts to help address Maryland’s $3-billion deficit.
