WGMD Fishing Report 10-18-22

Tuesday saw much cooler weather and the only fishing that I had reports from happened at Indian River Inlet.

Old Inlet Bait and Tackle said rockfish in the 20 to 25-inch class were caught on white bucktails with a white worm. That combination has been catching rockfish out of the inlet since before I was born. Small tog with the occasional keeper, have been caught on sand fleas and green crabs fished right in the rocks at the inlet.

It is possible we could see some drastic changes in the dolphin regulations in 2023. The Dolphin and Wahoo Advisory Panel for the South Atlantic Marine Fishery Council is considering raising the minimum size for dolphin to 20 inches. They are also looking at reducing the bag limit for dolphin.

Florida already has a 20-inch minimum size and currently catches 65% of the dolphin taken along the East Coast. North Carolina takes 23%.

Fortunately, Chris Burrows, chairman of the Panel, does not agree with these plans. Let’s hope he wins out.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
