Pickup Crashes at Westside VFD; Catches Fire, Driver found Dead Inside

The Maryland State Police and State Fire Marshal are investigating a vehicle crash Monday around noon at the Westside Volunteer Fire Department in Bivalve. Officials say a pickup truck for an unknown reason left the roadway and collided with metal safety bollards near the fire station. The truck stopped just feet from the fire station and caught fire – the driver was found dead inside the truck after the fire was put out.
Maryland State Police are investigating the crash while the State Fire Marshal investigates the cause of the fire.
The driver’s remains will be taken to the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for identification and cause of death.
