UPDATED: DSP Investigating Trooper Involved Fatal Shooting in Lewes Friday Night

UPDATED 11-30-19 12:30pm – Police were called to a Lewes home Friday night for an armed man who was threatening suicide.  Delaware State Police arrived to assist Lewes Police at the East Savannah Road home just after 8pm and found the 46 year old man outside the home with a handgun.  He placed it on the ground twice – but then picked it up and pointed it the Trooper and police officers.  The trooper fired – striking the man.  He was taken to Beebe Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.  The trooper involved has been with DSP for 5 years and has been placed on administrative leave as per Divisional policy.  The investigation is continuing.

Delaware State Police continue to investigate a Trooper involved shooting Friday night.  Police were called to a home on East Savannah Road in Lewes just after 8 for an armed man who was threatening suicide.   While police talked to the 47 year old man who was outside the home, the man showed a handgun.  The trooper fired his weapon and struck the man who was taken to an area hospital for treatment.  WGMD will have more information as it becomes available.
