Drivers in Worcester County should expect delays if you are driving in the area of the Routes 50 and 589 intersection east of Berlin. State Highway officials say that work associated with a commercial development and apartment complex, Coastal Square, will begin at that intersection on Saturday – and should be completed in the spring of 2026.
The intersection improvements are required for the construction of a commercial shopping center and apartment complex, called Coastal Square, on the south side of US 50.
The improvements will include the addition of a fourth leg at the intersection to create a four-way intersection and the removal of the traffic signal on Brader Lane. Additionally, east and westbound lanes of US 50 will be widened, resurfaced, and include installation of pavement markings, and stormwater upgrades to accommodate the commercial development.
Motorists can expect 24-hour, single-lane closures and flagging operations throughout the duration of the project. The developer’s contractor, Reynolds Excavating, of Princess Anne, will use arrow boards, cones, and flaggers to safely guide motorists through the work zone.
