Thousands of Birds Perish in Delmar Chicken House Fire Wednesday

Thousands of chickens died in a fire early Wednesday morning on Delmar Road in Delmar. Firefighters from Delmar were called just after 2am and found a 50-foot by 400-foot chicken house well involved in fire. Additional tankers were called to assist.
Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
Officials say about 24,000 birds did not survive. No other injuries were reported.
Damage is estimated at $500,000.
