UPDATED: West Virginia Man Charged after Hit & Run Collision in Bethany Beach

UPDATED – 10/13/25 – Beddow also faces charges from Dewey Beach Police where he was involved in a collision that damaged the center median pedestrian “wave” as well as knocking down a light pole.

ORIGINAL STORY – 10/12/25 – Police in Bethany Beach were called around 1am Sunday for a hit and run at theĀ intersection of Route 1 and Parkwood Street. Witnesses told police they saw a pickup with West Virginia tags strike a light pole and several street signs along the center median while traveling north and leaving the scene.
Dewey Beach Police located the truck there after it was involved in another collision and arrested the driver, 42 year old Mark Beddow of West Virginia on criminal and traffic offenses.
Beddow and a passenger were both treated at a nearby hospital ā Bethany Police at the hospital confirmed signs of impairment and complete a DUI investigation. Beddow is charged with the offenses below:

- Driving Under the Influence of a Combination of Alcohol and Any Drug (Misdemeanor)Ā
