Unemployment in Delaware Increased in December While Sussex County Saw Decrease


Unemployment in Delaware has increased from 4.9% in November to 5.2% in December – while the national average decreased from 4.5% in November to 4.4% in December. In Sussex County unemployment dropped from 5.4% in November to 5.1% in December. The Department of Labor shows that there were 26,600 unemployed Delawareans in December 2025 compared to 18,300 in December 2024 – the labor force participation rate in December was 59.4%.

The biggest over-the-year job increases were in the Private Education and Health Sector with the biggest job losses in the Manufacturing sector.
