UPDATED: Somerset County Warming Shelter – Closed Tuesday
UPDATED – 02/24/26 – 1pm – As there are no occupants remaining at the County Emergency Warming Shelter located at Washington High School & Academy (10902 Old Princess Anne Rd., Princess Anne, MD), the shelter will close today at noon.
Residents who are still without power may visit their local fire department to stay warm. Please call 410-651-0707 in advance so staff can be advised of your arrival. The Crisfield and Princess Anne libraries will also be open as warming centers until 6:45 p.m. Please note that Warming Centers are not shelters. A Warming Center is a temporary location where residents can go to stay warm during periods of cold weather. Residents should bring any necessary medications, snacks, and food with them. Pets are not permitted in Warming Centers.
If you are without power and choose not to use a Warming Center, we encourage you to stay with family or friends until service is restored.

ORIGINAL STORY – 02/23/26 – Due to widespread power outages across Somerset County with uncertain restoration timelines, and cold temperatures, the Somerset County Commissioners will open Washington Academy and High School as a warming shelter beginning at 5:00 p.m. this evening for anyone in need.
Pets are welcome. Please bring vaccination records, medications, and crates, if available.
Transportation to the shelter is available if needed. Please call 410-651-3912 to arrange transportation.
Residents should bring blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, medications, and personal hygiene items. If you have special dietary needs, please bring appropriate food and supplies.
If you are without power and choose not to use the County shelter, we encourage you to stay with family or friends until your power is restored.
