Dover Police Investigating Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash

The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred overnight in the area of South New Street just south of West Division Street. At approximately 12:44 a.m., officers arrived and located a 2013 Nissan Murano that had struck a tree on the side of the roadway. Police found the driver, identified as 26-year-old Aalyah Casson of Felton, inside the vehicle suffering from serious injuries. Officers and emergency medical personnel immediately rendered medical aid; however, Casson later died from her injuries. According to the police investigation so far, Casson was driving westbound on West Division Street when she turned left onto S. New Street at a high rate of speed. After turning onto S. New Street, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Investigators determined that Casson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
