Contract Awarded for North Jetty Repairs at Indian River Inlet

Repairs on the north jetty at the Indian River Inlet will begin next spring. The US Army Corps of Engineers has announced last week, the awarding of a $53-million contract to Agate Construction Co. Inc. – a New Jersey company out of Egg Harbor Township.
The work will include the repair of a portion of the degraded north jetty, placement of stone in the inlet to stabilize the repairs and reconstruction of a seaward end of the jetty.
The Army Corps will coordinate with Delaware State Parks and the contractor later this fall on access to the State Park for vehicles, pedestrians and trailers and staging areas and other site-related issues and a public meeting will be held during the winter. Work is expected to begin in March or April of 2027 and be completed by the fall of 2028.

Mobilization to the site is anticipated to begin in March or April of 2027 with in-water work to begin on May 1, 2027, based on environmental windows for construction.
Work will entail re-construction of a portion of the rubble mound structure using large rock and other components such as marine mattresses.
