AAA: National Gas Price Average Down Some According to Latest Report


The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is down 12 cents from last week at $4.42, according to AAA. Crude oil prices have been going down this week amid reports of peace talks with Iran. But the fragile situation could cause oil prices to spike again if a ceasefire deal isn’t reached. AAA also reports that gas prices remain the highest they’ve been in four years and will likely remain elevated as the busy summer driving season gets underway. The Delaware gas price average is $4.22 today, down 12 cents in the last week and $1.27 higher than one year ago. The South Jersey gas price average is $4.38 today, down 12 cents in the last week and up $1.38 compared to one year ago. In Pennsylvania, the gas average is $4.55 today, down 9 cents in the last week and up $1.27 from one year ago. The Philadelphia 5-county gas price average is $4.53 per gallon, down 10 cents from last week and up $1.33 from one year ago. The South Jersey gas price average is $4.38 today, down 12 cents in the last week and up $1.38 compared to one year ago. The Delaware gas price average is $4.22 today, down 12 cents in the last week and $1.27 higher than one year ago.

 

The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained the same at 41 cents.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased last week from 8.76 million b/d to 9.25 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 214.2 million barrels to 211.6 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.9 million barrels per day.

 

At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI fell $5.21 to settle at $88.68 a barrel. The EIA reports crude oil inventories decreased by 3.3 million barrels from the previous week. At 441.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 2% below the five-year average for this time of year.

“Pennsylvania drivers are seeing some relief at the pump, with the state average declining 9 cents over the past week,” says Jana Tidwell, spokesperson for AAA Club Alliance.  “The drop comes as crude oil prices continue to trend downward, now sitting below $90 per barrel, helping to ease pressure on fuel costs. While prices remain elevated compared to historical norms, motorists are benefiting from a more favorable trend as summer travel demand begins to build.”
