Crash Causes Significant Damage to Georgetown Circle

A high speed crash Friday night around 10:30 caused significant damage on The Circle in Georgetown and led to the arrest of a 28 year old Smyrna man. Georgetown Police spotted a vehicle speeding on Old Laurel Road, disregard a stop sign and crash into a ramp at Georgetown Elementary School. Police activated their lights and the driver sped off again heading towards The Circle where he ended up in the middle of The Circle causing damage. Police arrested the driver, Dwayne Boney, who showed signs of impairment. Boney is charged with multiple offenses:
- Criminal Mischief ($5,000 or more) 2 counts聽
- Disregarding a Police Officer鈥檚 Signal聽
- Leaving the Scene of a Property Collision聽
- Driving Under the Influence聽 聽
- Failure to Provide Information at the Scene of a Collision聽
- Failure to Have Insurance Identification聽
- Two counts of Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign聽
- Improper Passing聽
- Driving at an Unreasonable Speed
Boney was released on his own recognizance after appearing before a magistrate.
While the damage at both locations is still being assessed, Georgetown Police tell the Talk of Delmarva that damages to The Circle are estimated at over $5000.聽 At Georgetown Elementary School a railing was damaged from the first crash.聽
