Crash Near Delmar Leaves 1 Dead


A crash just after 6 Thursday night near Delmar has left one person dead. Delaware State Police say a pickup truck driven by 22 year old Luke Figgs of Delmar was southbound on Susan Beach Road and stopped for a posted stop sign. A Honda driven by a 30 year old woman from Mardela Springs, MD was eastbound on Delmar Road approaching the intersection when the pickup pulled into the path of the Honda and they collided. The Honda rotated and hit a utility pole on the driver’s side. The driver of the Honda was properly restrained but died from her injuries at TidalHealth/Peninsula Regional in Salisbury. Two passengers in her car – aged 4 and 29 – were treated for minor injuries. The driver of the pickup did not stop and was arrested after a traffic stop on East Pine Street by a Delmar Police officer. Figgs was not injured in the crash and is being held at at the Wicomico County Detention Center on DUI and other traffic-related charges.
