UPDATED: Dewey Beach PD Arrest Suspect Who Ransacked Woody’s Enclosed Deck

UPDATED – 05/24/26 – Dewey Beach Police have arrested 23 year old Joseph Hoyle of Middletown in connection with a burglary and vandalism that occurred at Woody’s Dewey Beach. Police were contacted Saturday morning when restaurant management discovered extensive damage to the outdoor deck area. Surveillance video showed Hoyle enter the business around 2:30am and caused significant damage to the deck area overturning tables, furniture and destroying an outdoor TV valued at about $5600. Total damages over $6100. Hoyle turned himself in to police Sunday morning – he is charged with 3rd degree burglary, criminal mischief- property damage $5000 or more and 2nd degree criminal trespass. Hoyle was released on his own recognizance.

ORIGINAL STORY – 05/24/26 – Police in Dewey Beach are looking for the man involved in a criminal incident at Woody’s Friday night or early Saturday morning.
Woody’s posted on their Facebook page that the suspect arrived just after 2am and spent 2 hours busting up the deck – tables, chairs, TV, lights – then took a nap and left at 7:30am.
Police say the suspect has been tentatively identified as Joseph Hoyle, who is believed to still be in the area.
