DISTRICT SEEKS CANDIDATES FOR VACANCY ON CITIZENS BUDGET OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE

The Indian River School District is seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on the Citizens Budget Oversight Committee (CBOC). Candidates for the vacancy should reside in IRSD Election District 4.

The CBOC provides additional financial transparency and ensures that stakeholders have input into the district’s budgetary process. It was developed and operates in accordance with Delaware Code and Delaware Department
of Education regulations. Committee membership is comprised of the superintendent, the director of finance and 10 citizens of the Indian River School District.

Citizens interested in filling the committee vacancy for District 4 must submit the following by September 4, 2018:

  • A letter of interest stating their reason for wanting to serve.
  • A Citizens Budget Oversight Committee membership application (available at irsd.net ).
  • A resume listing their experience and qualifications for serving.
  • References that can attest to their educational/financial knowledge and/or community involvement.

District 4 encompasses all of the beach resort areas from the Maryland line north to the Indian River Inlet. It also extends inland to Dagsboro on the northern end and Williamsville on the southern end. A map of IRSD election districts is available on the district website at irsd.net.

The term length for CBOC members is a minimum of two years with an option to continue serving at the discretion of the Indian River Board of Education. Committee members must attend the required training provided by the Delaware Department of Education.

The Citizens Budget Oversight Committee meets at least quarterly and is advisory in nature. The committee’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, review of monthly/quarterly financial statements, review of the annual budget before presentation to the Indian River Board of Education and review of trends and future needs of the district to prioritize future expenditures.

The CBOC may meet in conjunction with the district’s established Finance Committee at the discretion of the superintendent and/or Board president.
