Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources offering free trees to residents of the lower eastern shore. Officials say the trees will help improve water quality throughout the region.

Anyone living in Dorchester or Wicomico Counties who has a creek, ditch, stream or other waterway on or near their property can request a “buffer bag” filled with 25 native seedlings ready for planting. Each bundle will include 5 button bush, 5 hazel alder, 5 dogwood, 5 willow oak and 5 white oak trees.

If you’re interested in getting a bundle you need to request one by April 20th. Dorchester residents should contact Scott Daniels at 410-228-1861, and Wicomico residents should contact Matthew Hurd at 410-543-1950. Quantities are limited so reservations will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
