MD Senator urges environmentally conscious Farm Bill
April 27, 2018
Maryland Senator Ben Cardin is leading the charge against broad changes to the Farm Bill. He brought together a group of 28 senators to sign a letter to the Senate Agriculture Committee to reject any broad repeals of environmental laws during the Farm Bill renewal. Writing that “in recent years the crucial must-pass bills are used as opportunities to attach environmentally harmful provisions that are incapable of passing on their own.” Cardin says the letter comes after the committee got a flawed bill with scores of harmful environmental riders. MD’s other senator Chris Van Hollen and DE Senator Tom Carper also signed onto the letter.
