One arrested, another at large in Laurel armed robbery

Police have arrested one suspect and are searching for another in connection with the armed robbery of a convenience store in Laurel.

According to the Laurel Police Department, on Wednesday officers were dispatched to the First Stop Convenience Store for reports of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, police learned the suspect had fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

An unknown white male suspect entered the store and demanded money from the cashier while threatening employees with what appeared to be a knife, according to police.

Once he received money from the register he fled on foot in a light colored SUV waiting across the street.

Laurel Police launched an investigationa and discovered that 24-year-old Dustin Hicks, of Dover, was allegedly the driver of the get-away vehicle.

Dagsboro Police made contact with the vehicle used in the robbery on Friday, at which time officers tried to perform a traffic stop but a chase ensued.

The vehicle crashed during the pursuit and the driver, 17-year-old William Figgatt of Dover, tried to flee but was apprehended.

Further investigation confirmed that Figgatt was the person who committed the armed robbery while Hicks drove the get-away vehicle, according to police. Figgatt was found wearing the same clothes used during the robbery when he was captured, police said.

Figgatt was charged with 1st degree robbery, possession of a deadly eapon during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, wearing a disguise while committing a felony, and 2nd degree conspiracy. He was arraigned and held at the Stevenson Correctional Facility after his failure to post $43,000 secured bond.

Hicks remains at large.
