Salisbury Woman Charged with Arson after Argument of $7

A Salisbury woman has been arrested on charges of arson after a dispute over an alleged $7. On July 3^rd Salisbury Fire Department responded to Penn Street for a fire that was put out by the occupant. The occupant told investigators that a neighbor, 51 year old Janice Oney, was upset after demanding $7 she claimed he owed her. They argued and Oney left, but returned with a bottle of gasoline and set his front door on fire. She rode off on a bike. The State Fire Marshal’s office ruled the fire was intentional and evidence linked Oney to the incident. A warrant was issued on August 1^st charging Oney with multiple offenses listed below: 

• 1st degree arson
• 2nd degree arson 
• 1st degree malicious burning 
• Malicious destruction of property over $1,000 
• Reckless endangerment 
• Theft under $100

Oney was arrested by Salisbury and Maryland State Police and transported to the Wicomico County Detention Center where she is being held without bond following an appearance before a District Court Commissioner.  Her bond review is set for Monday morning in Wicomico District Court.
