Unemployment in Delaware Increased in August


Unemployment has increased in Delaware from 4.1% in July to 4.3% in August. The national rate also saw a slight increase to 4.3%. In Sussex County, unemployment increased from 4% in July to 4.4% in August. Delaware Department of Labor officials say that nearly two-thirds of August’s year-over-year job growth came from the Private Education and Health sector with an increase of 2100 jobs followed by the Retail Trade and Transportation and Utilities sectors which increased 1400 jobs. The Professional and Business Services sector saw the largest decline of 600 jobs. In August of 2025 there were 21,900 unemployed Delawareans compared to 18,700 in August of 2024.
