WGMD Fishing Report 12-4-19

Tuesday saw gale warnings up for the ocean and small craft advisories up for the bay.  Wednesday may be fishable and we hope a few boats will be able to sail.

It looks like bag limits for spot and croaker will be in our future.  The highest number in the suggested options is 50 with the lowest 10.  How many we will be allowed to keep will depend on the findings of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Technical Commetee’s stock assessment.

Last summer saw an abundance of spot with people carrying coolers full off the fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park.  Doug Elliott and I caught and released spot one after the other on a warm summer day while fishing at Reef Sites 8 and 6.  I even caught them from the surf at Three Rs Road.  I used FishBites bloodworm or clam and the spot ate them up.

Croaker, on the other hand, were not as easy to come by.  I didn’t catch one all summer although I did see a few on the cleaning table at Lewes Harbour Marina.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
