WGMD Fishing Report 12-8-19

Small craft advisories were up for Saturday, but Sunday looks fishable.  Tog fishing has been good with lots of small fish and a few keepers.

A few tips that may help you catch more tog and there by catch more keepers.

Number one, use braided line.  This has been the best invention for bottom fishing because it has very little stretch and will detect even the slightest tap from a fish on your bait.

Tog don’t grab the bait and run like a bluefish or sea bass.  The crush it, swallow the soft stuff and spit out the shell.  The entire procedure takes about one second.  During that time, you have to feel the bite and set the hook.

Keeping the line as close to 90 degrees to the water as possible will also help.  This requires a sinker that is heavy enough to overcome the current.  I like to raise and lower the sinker about an inch or so as I fish to feel even the slightest change in weight.  Any change requires a hook set.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
