WGMD Fishing Report 5-19-19

Saturday’s weather was about as perfect as you can get for fishing and the fish didn’t disappoint.

The Cast for a Cure Surf Tournament held out of Old Inlet Bait and Tackle was just wrapping up when I called.  The final tally will be in Sunday’s report, but I can tell you the biggest fish of the day was a 40-inch rockfish.

Amanda at Lewes Harbour Marina said Eileen and Gary Smith caught five flounder between 17 and 19 inches plus one nice bluefish out of the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal on white and chartreuse Gulp! swimming mullet.  Anne Black fished on the Angler and came back with a 54-pound drum.  Robbie Baxley had a 2.25-pound flounder out of the Canal on cut bait.

Dave Beebe at Lighthouse View Tackle on the fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park told us the pier saw some 18 to 21-inch flounder caught plus a good number of blues.  The beach to the east of the pier also saw good bluefish action.  Cut bait and metal lures work best on the bluefish.
