UPDATED: Driver Identified and Vehicle Located; Fatal Pedestrian Hit & Run; Possible Suspect Vehicle

UPDATE–06/19/25: Delaware State Police continue to investigate the fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash that occurred on Sunday night in Bethel.

Police say they have identified the driver, a 23-year-old woman from Milford, Delaware, and located the vehicle–the 2012 Buick Lacrosse that was involved in the crash. The driver was arrested for unrelated capias warrants and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution. The investigation is ongoing, and charges related to the crash are pending.

UPDATED – 06/17/25 – Delaware State Police are looking for your help for information into a fatal crash that took the life of 78 year old Cheryl Hiett of Seaford. Investigation has led police to identify a possible suspect vehicle as an unknown color 2010 to 2013 Buick Lacrosse with damage to the passenger’s side front and windshield. Police believe Hiett was struck just before 9 Sunday night on Bethel Road. Hiett’s body was not discovered until Monday morning.

ORIGINAL STORY – 06-16-25 – Early Monday morning Delaware State Police were called to Bethel Road where they found a 78 year old woman from Seaford dead along the side of the road. Investigation shows that a vehicle was eastbound on Bethel Road Sunday night just before 9 when the woman walked into the path of the vehicle and was struck. The driver left the scene.
