Stable National Gas Price Average to Start 2026: Lowest Since 2021

The new year begins with the lowest national average in years at $2.81. The last time the national average for a gallon of regular gas was this low was back in March of 2021. Jana Tidwell, spokesperson for AAA Club Alliance says low crude oil prices, coupled with decreased seasonal demand due to winter weather and fewer daylight hours, continue to keep pump prices holding steady. The Delaware gas price average is $2.83 today, up a penny in the last week and 24 cents lower than one year ago. The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained the same as last week at 38 cents and in Delaware–unchanged at 31 cents. Crude oil prices remain relatively unchanged from the end of 2025 and unaffected amid questions about Venezuela鈥檚 impact on the oil market. Currently, the global oil supply is strong, as OPEC+, the coalition of oil-exporting countries, says it鈥檚 not planning any production hikes in the first quarter of 2026 due to lower demand.
