Suspected Real Estate Fraud in Grasonville

The Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff received a report of suspected real estate fraud in Grasonville. The reporting party said they were contacted by an unknown individual claiming to be a private landlord offering a Grasonville home for rent at $1,300 per month and repeatedly requesting a $70 application fee before meeting in person. No money was exchanged. Deputies later contacted the homeowner, who confirmed the property is for sale only and not being rented, and reported similar concerns that the home may have been falsely advertised. An on-site check of the property found no signs of squatters or forced entry.
