Federal Judge Issues Ruling on SNAP Eligibility Changes

Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings says a federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon has permanently blocked the Trump administration from imposing certain penalties on states over changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. The ruling makes permanent an injunction issued last December and also blocks administration guidance that would have restricted SNAP eligibility for certain lawful permanent residents, including some refugees and people granted asylum. Delaware and 21 other states, along with the District of Columbia, sued the administration over the changes. The judge ruled the administration’s deadline for states to implement the changes was unlawful and arbitrary.
