Candidates Invited To Run For Office In Georgetown This Year

Georgetown residents will vote for mayor and council in the 3rd and 4th wards in this year’s election.

Candidates who meet qualifications must file for the election by Thursday, April 14th at 5:00 p.m. Voters must be registered for the election by May 11th.

The Georgetown election will be held Saturday, May 14th between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Absentee ballots will be available Monday, April 18th and must be returned by Friday, May 13th.

Notice of Solicitation of Candidates
The Town of Georgetown will hold its
Annual Municipal Election
Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM.

Mayor
Town Council Person for the Third Ward
Town Council Person for the Fourth Ward
Will be considered during this election.
Any qualified candidate interested in filing for these offices may do so at the Town Administrative Offices.
The filing deadline is Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.
Guidelines for Candidates:

  1. The Mayor shall be twenty-one (21) years of age, a citizen of the United States, the State of
    Delaware, and a bona fide resident of the Town of Georgetown.
  2. The Town Councilperson from the Third Ward shall be twenty-one (21) years of age, a
    citizen of the United States, the State of Delaware, a bona fide resident of the town of
    Georgetown, and a bona fide resident of the Third Ward.
  3. The Town Councilperson from the Fourth Ward shall be twenty-one (21) years of age, a
    citizen of the United States, the State of Delaware, a bona fide resident of the Town of
    Georgetown, and a bona fide resident of the Fourth Ward.
    Terms of Office:
    Town Council terms of office shall be for a period of two (2) years.
    Voter Registration:
    Register to vote before May 11, 2022 with the Sussex County Department of Elections:
    119 North Race Street, Georgetown DE 19947 (302) 856-5367.

Absentee Voting
Any registered voter of the Town of Georgetown, who wishes to vote by absentee voting, may do so by
obtaining an “Affidavit for Absentee Voting” at the Town Administrative Offices. Absentee ballots will
be available Monday, April 18, 2022. Absentee ballots can either be picked up at the Town
Administrative Offices or mailed. The deadline for voting by absentee ballot in person is Friday, May
13, 2022 at 12:00pm.
