Heat Wave Brings Focus on Energy-Saving Tips, Programs

With yet another heat wave blanketing the area, Delmarva Power is advising customers about their voluntary energy-efficiency programs, including Energy Wise Rewards, which helped reduce electricity demand during the Fourth of July heat wave. Senior Communications Specialist for Delmarva Power, Mary Oakey tells the Talk of Delmarva about this option for customers…

She adds that their bill credits do vary based off of their participation level. By participating in Energy Wise Rewards, Delmarva Power wants customers to know that they are:

  • Helping prevent blackouts and service interruptions across Maryland
  • Keeping electricity costs down for everyone
  • Earning bill credits each month from June through October

Should customers have any questions or concerns, they can call the Energy Wise Rewards hotline at 866-353-5799.

Delmarva Power is recommending some actions for customers to take during the extreme heat to reduce energy costs…

Oakey also mentioned that customers can also manage their thermostat by setting it up a couple of degrees, especially if they will be away from home for a period of time.

Delmarva Power’s Energy Wise Rewards Program Summary

  • A Voluntary program where customers select the energy-saving device that has the features they want and choose a participation level that best suits their lifestyle. All devices are provided and installed at no additional cost.
  • Energy Wise Rewards works by cycling your central air conditioner or heat pump over short intervals (conservation periods) on selected summer days. When conservation periods occur, your air conditioner’s fan will continue to circulate throughout your home.
  • Depending on the participation level you choose, you’ll determine how long your compressor toggles off and on to conserve energy. Your home’s temperature may increase 1-3 degrees during the conservation period—but you can always select a level that’s comfortable for you. Energy Wise Rewards is only activated during times of high electricity demand, typically from May through October.
  • Customers receive a bill credit for enrolling in Energy Wise Rewards. Energy Wise Rewards might not be the right fit for every customer. It is not recommended for customers who have medical conditions, are elderly, or who have small children or pets at home. Learn more by going to Delmarva.com/WaysToSave. Customers can unenroll by calling 1-866-353-5799.
  • If you have a medical or health condition or need assistance during an event, please call the Energy Wise Rewards customer hotline at 1-866-353-5799.
