A month-long investigation into retail thefts throughout Wicomico County has led to the arrest of a Salisbury man on multiple drug offenses on Friday, July 17th. Detectives identified 57 year old Mark Jones of Salisbury as the primary suspect in numerous retail theft incidents in Wicomico County – as well as in Sussex, Worcester and Somerset Counties where between $50,000 and $100,000 of property was taken. Detectives saw Jones driving through Salisbury and performed a lawful traffic stop – a K9 free-air sniff of the vehicle positively alerted for drugs.

A search turned up a quantity of cocaine consistent with distribution and Jones was found in possession of crack cocaine and methamphetamine. Several items believed to have been stolen from the Pocomoke Walmart were also recovered.

Jones is charged with drug offenses in connection with the traffic stop – the investigation remains active with multiple law enforcement agencies and retail partners.

Additional arrests and charges are possible.
