Legislation Introduced in Delaware Seeks to Expand Coverage for Menopause and Perimenopause Care
May 21, 2026/
Legislation introduced in Delaware 聽by Senator Nicole Poore and Representative Kamela Smith seeks to expand access for comprehensive menopause and perimenopause care across the state. Senate Bill 319 recognizes menopause as a common health condition, but one that should be taken more seriously by medical providers and insurers alike. SB 319 requires health insurance plans to cover medically necessary diagnostic services and treatment for menopause symptoms. Senator Poore, prime sponsor of the bill, said this legislation addresses a gap in women’s health care that has too often been overlooked.聽 According to state officials, aligning this care with neighboring states such as Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey will help Delaware remain competitive in providing accessible health care services and coverage for Delawareans, particularly in the treatment, diagnosis, and prevention of menopause and perimenopause symptoms. SB 319 was released from the Senate Health & Social Services Committee on Wednesday and awaits a vote before the Senate.
