Weather is only part of the delay for the opening of the New Sussex County Technical School – which is now scheduled to open in September of 2028. The revised opening from September of 2027 comes as the district accepted an approved alternative construction plan to increase the size of the building to accommodate 1800 students – current enrollment is 1375. Construction was delayed during the winter months – losing 65 workdays due to the extreme winter weather conditions.

Additional information from Sussex Tech School District:
Superintendent Kevin Carson stated, “the school needs to be open after it has been commissioned and prepared for the massive move from the current Sussex Tech High School. In addition, while we want everything completed in a timely manner, we want the building to be completely ready before we take occupancy.  RYJ (Construction manager, Richard Y. Johnson & Son) has done an outstanding job of moving the construction process forward of the new Sussex Technical High School.”
