Potential Air Travel Disruptions During Holiday Season

With the holiday travel season on the horizon and many people planning trips, air travel is expected to face significant issues due to a combination of factors. Those factors include record-breaking passenger numbers, staffing shortages among air traffic controllers caused by a government shutdown, and potential weather disruptions. As a result, increased delays and cancellations are expected, with certain airports being more affected than others. It鈥檚 highly recommended that air travelers arrive three hours prior to domestic and international flight departures due to possible security line delays. AAA also suggests that you have a plan in place, as flights can be delayed or cancelled due to weather, staffing issues, or technology events without notice. AAA recommends that you book flights as soon as possible and to book the earliest flights on your days of travel. Early disruptions allow airlines more time to accommodate rebooking on later flights. AAA advises that you be patient and have a plan for dealing with potential disruptions (other modes of transportation, accommodations). For instance, ask your AAA Travel Advisor for a recommendation for car rental or airport hotel in layover or departure cities in case it鈥檚 needed.
