Rehoboth Beach 9-1-1 Communications Center Recertified
The City of Rehoboth Beach’s 9-1-1 Communications Center has been recertified as an Accredited Center of Excellence for medical, and police as well as fire dispatch services. Accreditation is valid for a three-year period. Rehoboth’s communications center first received IAED accreditation for medical dispatch in 1995 and for police and fire dispatch in 2018. The city earned triple ACE accreditation initially in 2019.
In a release from the City of Rehoboth Beach:
IAED certification is the highest distinction given to emergency communications centers, certifying that these centers are performing at or above established industry standards. IAED accreditation is the culmination of an arduous process that includes demonstration that the center is meeting a set of 20 measurable, globally recognized best practices as well as a detailed evaluation by industry experts.
“This accreditation,” says Police Chief Keith Banks, “ensures our residents and visitors that the city’s emergency services will be appropriately and effectively dispatched when called upon, that help will be there when they need it. The fact that the city has earned reaccreditation is a reflection of the dedication and good work of our communications specialists, who often must provide calm, life-saving directions, and other critical information in the midst of stressful, chaotic situations.”
IAED is the standard-setting organization for emergency dispatch and response services worldwide. The organization works to advance and support public safety emergency telecommunications professionals and to ensure that citizens in need of emergency services are matched safely, quickly, and effectively with the most appropriate resources.
