Traffic Stop in Millsboro Sunday Morning Leads to Arrest for Drugs, Weapons & DUI

A traffic stop by Delaware State Police in Millsboro around midnight on Sunday ended in the arrest of a Philadelphia man on a variety of offenses. Police spotted a Charger northbound on Route 113 near Centerview Drive with a headlight out. The Trooper stopped the Charger and while speaking to the driver, 61 year old Jose Morales-Colon of Philadelphia, smelled marijuana coming from the car – and Morales-Colon showed signs of impairment. After standardized field sobriety test were given, Morales-Colon was arrested.

During a search of the car, troopers found the following items:

  • Approximately 18.77 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately .72 grams of marijuana
  • .5 dosage units of suspected oxycodone
  • Large, serrated machete concealed in the rear passenger seat
  • $8,135 in suspected drug proceeds

Morales-Colon was taken to Troop 4 where he was charged with the crimes listed below:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Tier 2 (Felony)
  • Consume Marijuana, Personal Use Quantity in Public Areas/Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance except Human Growth Hormone Without a Prescription
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 2 counts
  • Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of a Combination of Alcohol and Any Drug
  • Failure to Have Two Headlamps
  • Other Traffic Violations

Morales-Colon was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $51,503 cash bond.
