WGMD Fishing Report 3-5-19

With small craft advisories up for Monday, I don’t think anyone went fishing on the ocean.  I was pretty cold and windy on land so I didn’t get any reports for the local ponds, tidal creeks or rivers.

I did get two reports from Sunday.  Chris Huk and Mike Lewes went tog fishing, catching a boat limit by 11:30 AM and beating the rain back to the dock.  The largest fish was an 18.6 pounder caught by Mike.  They were using crab for bait.

Captain Monty Hawkins on the Morning Star out of Ocean City took advantage of the good sea conditions and lack of customers on Sunday to add more material to the Ocean City Reef Project.

The government auction of boats at Indian River Marina is over.  The 1984 Blackfin went for $2,500 and the 1959 Egg Harbor sold for $26.  Why anyone would want that old, rotten wood hull is beyond me.  A 1979 Phoenix was the lowest at $25.  The commercial boat did not sell.  The proud new owners have their work cut out for themselves.
