WGMD Fishing Report 9-24-18

Monday lived up to its reputation as blue Monday.  The weather was just nasty with rain, fog, drizzle and lots of northeast wind.

I called Lighthouse View Tackle on the fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park a little after 5:00 PM and they were closed.  Even so, I would bet at least one or two fishermen went out on the pier and caught some spot.

The Fall Surf Fishing Classic put on by Old Inlet Bait and Tackle had 207 registered anglers and Morty Morton came out on top.  There was a four-way tie in the Ladies Division with Debbie Weichhardt, Melissa Aston, Loretta Schickner and Tricia Wolther all turning in the same scores.  The ladies decided to share the trophy with each having it at home for three months then returning it to Old Inlet for a permanent display.  The Calcutta was won by Matt Beatty and the Big Fish money went to Scott Stallings.

The Port Mahon Fishing Pier has been closed until late October by the Division of Fish and Wildlife for repairs.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report
