WGMD Fishing Report 9-4-18

Tuesday was hot, humid and very still making the perfect opportunity for Larry Weldin, Mike Pizzolato and I to run Larry’s boat out to the Del-Jersey-Land Reef.  The reef is 26 miles off the Bell at Indian River Inlet and we were there in less than an hour.

We all started fishing with squid strips on either a top-bottom rig or a bucktail.  In spite of a SONAR that lit up with fish on top of every piece of structure we tried, not one nibble, let alone a bite, did we get.

I had an idea the night before that perhaps I could fish a live minnow without any weight and catch a dolphin.  I picked up two dozen minnows from Rick’s and hooked one through the lips and cast it out.  It didn’t take long before the first of four dolphin was flopping in the cooler.  Larry also rigged up one of his spinning outfits and ended up with the fish of the day, a nice gaffer.  The ride home was as flat as the ride out, ending a perfect day.  Mike caught the only keeper sea bass over open bottom.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report
