Wicomico County School Open Houses Set

The new school year is coming soon! Wicomico County Schools will hold open house events the week of Aug. 27 in preparation for the opening of the 2018-2019 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 4, for most students*.

Students in grades 1-6 and grade 9 will attend school on Sept. 4. (Exceptions: All grades will attend at Pittsville Elementary and Middle, and only grade 6 will attend at Mardela Middle and High.). All students in grades 1-12 will be in school Wednesday, Sept. 5. During the first week, kindergarten and prekindergarten students will report as scheduled by the assigned school.

Open House information for each school is provided below.
Please note: Schools will mail welcome letters to students and families on Friday, Aug. 17. On
Thursday, Aug. 30, all Wicomico schools and school system offices will be closed until 11 a.m. while employees attend an important annual meeting for the entire WCPS team. The Central Office and school offices will be open on Friday, Aug. 31, as final preparations are made for the start of the new school year.

Open House Information:
Beaver Run Elementary: Open House for Beaver Run families will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30 from 2-3 p.m. Beaver Run families with students also attending either East Salisbury Elementary or WELC (Wicomico Early Learning Center) will be able to come to Beaver Run first, then visit East Salisbury and/or WELC for their open houses from 3-4 p.m.

Wicomico Early Learning Center (WELC) of Beaver Run Elementary: Open House for WELC families on Thursday, Aug. 30 from 3 – 4 p.m.

Charles H. Chipman Elementary: Thursday, Aug. 30 from 2-4 p.m., Open House. We are excited to welcome our students and families to the start of a wonderful school year. Students will enjoy socializing with peers, meeting their teachers and touring the school.

Delmar Elementary: Tuesday, Aug. 28, Prekindergarten and Kindergarten Open House and
Classroom Orientation from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Aug. 30, Open House from 1:30-3 p.m. for grades Prekindergarten to 4.

East Salisbury Elementary: Tuesday, Aug. 28, 3 rd Grade orientation and picnic from 4-6 p.m. However, please note that this date may change due to the installation of the air conditioning unit in the main building. If there is a change, families will be informed by SchoolMessenger call/email and online. Thursday, Aug. 30, open house for all grades with teacher and classroom visits, 3-4 p.m. Sept. 11, Back-to-School Night 5:30-7 p.m., with start of Claire’s Gourmet school fundraiser. Oct. 24, fall picture day.

Fruitland Primary: Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 1:30-3:30 p.m., Open House. Fruitland Primary is excited to welcome our students and families to our Open House. Doors will unlock at 1:30 p.m. Students will enjoy socializing with peers, meeting their teachers, and touring the school.  Parents will have the opportunity to sign-up for the Class Dojo system and log into the Parent / Student portal for Everyday Mathematics 4. Our PTA will be on-site as well as community partners in support of our student’s success.

Fruitland Intermediate School: Wednesday, Aug. 29, 4-6 p.m., Back-to-School Barbecue to meet and greet teachers, administrators and staff members. Start in the auditorium with our PTA business meeting, see your child’s classrooms and visit with teachers, and join us for a light supper on the playing fields as we continue in fellowship with each other to prepare for a wonderful 2018-2019 school year!

Glen Avenue Elementary: Thursday, Aug. 30, Open House for all students, 12-2 p.m. Students and families are invited to visit school and meet the teachers.

North Salisbury Elementary: Thursday, Aug. 30, Open House for all students 12:30-2:30
p.m. The strong relationship fostered between students, staff and our NSS families begins with our open house events. During the Open House, students and their families will have the
opportunity to tour our freshly painted school, visit their classroom, sign up for the PTA, enroll in Class Dojo, log into the Everyday Math ConnectEd portal, learn about after school care options, and review examples of our school Consistent Attire requirements. North Salisbury families will receive additional details on Open House activities with the mid-August welcome letter.

Northwestern Elementary: Thursday, Aug. 30, Open House 3-4 p.m.

Pemberton Elementary: Wednesday, Aug. 29, be sure to look for the Pemberton staff in your neighborhood! We will be greeting our students and families. Thursday, Aug. 30, Open House for Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. Then from 3:30-5 p.m. on Aug. 30, it’s time for our “Welcome to Prekindergarten and Kindergarten!” Open House for Prekindergarten 3, Prekindergarten 4 and Kindergarten. During Open House, our families can review their transportation to and from school, receive car rider and walker tags, sign up for Class Dojo, and join Pemberton’s PTA.

Pinehurst Elementary: On Thursday, Aug. 30, the Pinehurst staff will take two school buses out into the community just after the countywide kickoff rally that ends at 10:30 a.m. We plan to make stops at the River’s Edge Apartments, Apartments at Stone Grove Crossing, and Leonard Apartments. Then later in the day on Aug. 30, the PTA will hold a Back to School Open House from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Prince Street Elementary: Thursday, Aug. 30, Open House at Prince Street Elementary 12:45-1:45 p.m. for Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades, and 1:45-2:45 p.m. for 3rd , 4th and 5th grades. The Snowy Bus will be present from 12:15-3 p.m. that day.

West Salisbury Elementary: Thursday, Aug. 30, Open house 1-3 p.m. Come and meet your teachers.

Westside Primary: Thursday, Aug. 30, Open House 1-3 p.m.

Westside Intermediate: Thursday, Aug. 30, Open House at Westside Intermediate will be held from 2-3 p.m. for second and third grades and from 3-4 p.m. for fourth and fifth grades.

Willards Elementary: Thursday, August 30, Back to School Social 5 -7 p.m.

Pittsville Elementary and Middle: Wednesday, Aug. 29, the administration, faculty, staff, and PTA will welcome students and their families to a new school year during our “Back to School Bash” from 5:30-7 p.m.
5:30-5:45 p.m. PTA Meeting
5:45-6:30 p.m. Parents and students visit classrooms.
6:30-7 p.m. Outdoor activities: Games, middle school schedules in exchange for the emergency form completed and turned into Miss Robinson and Ms. A. Marshall. JTs food truck will be here so parents and guest can purchase food items, etc.

Bennett Middle: Back to School Night Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 5-7 p.m. The administration, faculty, staff and PTA look forward to seeing families as we get ready to start the 2018-2019 school year. Students will be eligible to receive their schedule at the back to school event once the back to school information has been completed and returned.

Salisbury Middle: On Wednesday, Aug. 29, the administration, faculty, staff, and PTA will
welcome all students and their families to a new school year during a Back to School Open
House from 5-7 p.m. Parents may turn in information from the Back to School invitation packet any time up to and including the night of the open house. Once these documents have been accepted, the student is eligible to receive his/her schedule for the school year.

Wicomico Middle: On Wednesday, Aug. 29, the administration, faculty and staff will welcome
all students and their families to a new school year during a Back to School Open House from 5-7 p.m. Parents may turn in information from the Back to School invitation packet the evening of the open house. Once these documents have been accepted, the student is eligible to receive his/her schedule for the school year. They may also pick up Family Portal information in the Guidance office.

Mardela Middle and High: Thursday, Aug. 30 Back-to-School Night 5-7 p.m. Families can get their student’s schedule, tour the school, order yearbooks and spiritwear, and meet their new teachers. There will also be opportunities to join the PTA and support classes and groups by purchasing various school-related items.

James M. Bennett High School: Thursday, Aug 30 JMB 10th, 11 th and 12 th graders can visit the school between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. to turn in required school documents and receive their schedule. The evening of Aug. 30 is PTSA Back to School Night at the school for 9 th graders only, 5-7 p.m. Meet in the JMB Auditorium at 5 to get started. We will first have a welcome meeting with PTSA and school administration and then pickup of class schedules once required school documents are turned in.

Parkside High: Tuesday, Aug. 28, PTA Freshman Back to School Night 5-7 p.m. This event is
geared toward our new 9 th graders this year; however, all are welcome. Also on Aug. 28, our 10th , 11th , and 12th grade students and parents may come in to pick up your class schedule from 1-3 p.m. In order to receive your class schedule, all students/parents are required to turn in the completed school information documents. To assist you in this process, we will be sending home the required school information documents for you to complete ahead of time. These documents will also be posted to our website and Facebook page.

Wicomico High: Thursday, Aug. 30, Back to School Night for freshmen, 4-6 p.m.
Wicomico Evening High School: No open house, but registration for the fall semester will be
Sept. 18, 19 and 20, and fall semester classes begin Sept. 24.

Choices Academy: Thursday, August 30, from 1-3:30 p.m.
