Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Bomb Threats Targeting Fruitland Schools

Monday morning just after 10:30 the Fruitland Police Department received two separate bomb threat calls on the non-emergency dispatch line. Officials say both calls originated from the same phone number, but two distinct voices were heard. The callers referenced Fruitland Elementary School, poison gas and ‘gauging their eyes out.’

Investigation determined that there is no school named Fruitland Elementary School in the State of Maryland, however out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement personnel from multiple agencies from Wicomico and Worcester Counties conducted searches of Fruitland Primary School and Fruitland Intermediate School in Wicomico County. Law enforcement found no credible evidence of an explosive device, chemical agent, or other hazardous threat was located at either school. The opening of the schools was delayed during the investigation before normal school operations resumed. The investigation is ongoing as officials work to identify those who placed the threatening calls. Additional investigative measures are being pursued, including efforts to determine the origin of the calls and identify those responsible.
