A fire in a detached garage on Shore Highway south of Denton is under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal. Denton Volunteer Firefighters were called just after 5:30 Sunday evening for a structure fire and found fire in a 24-foot by 32-foot detached garage. Officials say a passerby spotted the fire and notified the occupants at the residence.

Investigation showed the fire originated on the exterior of the garage – extending into the garage and to the adjacent residence on the property – causing significant damage to both structures. A smoke alarm was present and activated.

A family of 6 was displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Damage is estimated at $300,000.
