Lewes Modifies July 4th Festivities for Safety


The City of Lewes has made a couple of changes in the July 4th festivities. The Old Fashioned games for the kids will be held Saturday morning from 9 to 11am – ending before the hottest part of the day. The Doo-Dah parade has been modified for safety. The parade will begin at 5pm on Manila Avenue – all participants must be lined up on Manila Avenue. No one will be permitted to join along the route. Lewes Police will lead the parade – DelDOT and Lewes PD will follow at the end to provide traffic control and the official end of the parade.

MODIFIED PARADE ROUTE:  The parade will begin on Manila Avenue, proceed left onto Kings Highway, right onto Savannah Road, left onto Second Street, and left onto Market Street. The parade will terminate on Market Street between Second and Third Streets.

PARADE LINE-UP:  All parade entrants must line up on Manila Avenue. Participation will be limited to those lined up on Manila Avenue. Participants staged on Savannah Road will not be permitted to enter the parade. The Lewes Police Department will lead the parade.

PARADE START TIME:  The parade will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. and is scheduled to last no longer than 45 minutes.

PARADE PARTICIPANT MOVEMENT:  By 5:25 p.m., all entrants must be off Manila Avenue and actively proceeding along Kings Highway. It is important that all participants maintain a steady pace to ensure everyone can enter and complete the route in a timely manner.

PARADE CLOSURE:  The Lewes Police Department and DelDOT will trail the parade to provide traffic control and officially end the parade.
