Pent-up travel demand, convenient getaways, even ‘revenge travel’ (elaborate trips) will make it a busy summer travel season, according to Triple-A Mid-Atlantic.

The auto club survey released a travel survey which finds that more than 105,000 people in The First State are expected to travel over Memorial Day weekend. The survey indicates optimism surrounding the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine as well as growing consumer confidence.

However, more than one-third of those surveyed say uncertainty about activities and attractions at their destinations is a consideration as they make their travel plans.

“Optimism coinciding with the COVID-19 vaccine rollout and growing consumer confidence are fueling a strong desire to travel this summer as the U.S. takes steps toward putting the pandemic behind us,” AAA Mid-Atlantic Manager of Public and Government Affairs Ken Grant said. “The AAA poll shows that Delaware residents have a pent-up demand for quick get-a-ways and even longer, more extravagant trips – so called ‘Revenge Travel.’”
