Complaints Lead to State Auditor Investigation of Capital School District’s Building & Grounds Department

After multiple complaints to the State Auditor’s hotline regarding the Capital School District’s Building and Grounds Department an investigation was made.  The State Auditor’s office was told of a variety of allegations – including violations of union contract overtime provisions and work requirements, inappropriate purchases, misuse of fleet vehicles and misuse of bid authority.  The State Auditor has made numerous recommendations including that eligible maintenance employees be given an opportunity to work paid overtime and developing procedures to assess the need for specific certifications and license requirements.
