UPDATED: Ground has been Broken for Route 113 & Route 18/404 Grade Separated Intersection in Georgetown
UPDATED – 09/15/26 – Ground was broken Tuesday morning for the start of the Route 113 and Route 18/404 grade-Separated intersection project. The current signalized intersection operates at a failing level of service. The new traffic pattern will improve traffic flow and reduce the potential for serious crashes as local and through traffic will be separated. Work on this $45-million project began in August and is expected to be completed by late Summer of 2028.

“The Department is eager to begin work on this project,” shared Secretary of Transportation Shanté Hastings. “The current intersection is operating at a failing level of service and has one of the highest numbers of reported crashes in the area. By utilizing a grade-separated design, we can make the intersection safer, reduce congestion, accommodate growth, and preserve mobility for residents and businesses in the area,” continued Hastings.
The US113 at SR18/SR404 grade separation will include bridging over US113 with loop ramps in the northeast and southwest quadrants and the addition of over two miles of sidewalks and paths. Other improvements include the creation of a third lane on US113 for the project limits, the construction of transit facilities, new ramps, and a bridge, and upgraded drainage, lighting, and roadway infrastructure.

ORIGINAL STORY – 09/14/26 – After it was postponed for weather a month or so ago, the official groundbreaking of the Route 113 at Route 18/404 Grade Separated Intersection in Georgetown will take place Tuesday morning at 11:30am. This project will include two loop ramps, a widening of Route 113 from North Bedford Street to Ennis Street with Route 18/404 passing over Route 113. The proposed interchange will provide safer and more efficient access at Route 113 and Routes 18/404 for local and regional travelers. The existing signalized intersection operates at a failing level of service.
The project began with prep work in mid-August. Overnight lane closures on northbound Route 113 are planned to start in mid-September. This project is expected to be completed in September of 2028.
