Dover Man Charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide in Thursday Shooting

A Dover man has been arrested in a shooting that resulted in the death of a 59 year old Dover man. Dover Police began their investigation Thursday evening when they were called to an apartment on Courtside Drive. They found the 59 year old victim with a gun shot wound to the upper body. He died at the hospital from his injuries. The investigation led police to 48 year old Kenneth Collins of Dover , who was inside the apartment and handling a gun in a negligent manner causing the gun to discharge – striking the victim.
Collins was arrested on scene without incident and transported to the Dover Police Department. Officers conducted a search warrant at the residence and located a 9mm handgun and a .380 handgun. Collins is prohibited from possessing any firearms as a result of a previous felony conviction. Collins is charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony Â
- Possession of a firearm/ammunition by Person Prohibited (4x)Â
- Criminally Negligent Homicide
Collins was committed to SCI on $80,000 cash bail. Collins is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
